Time and the Conway’s
Tuesday 28th April 2009 sees the preview of Time and the Conway’s with the official opening on Tuesday 5th May 2009. It is currently taking bookings up until Thursday 28th May 2009. It is expected that the play well quickly sell out as it is not running for a great length of time. Tickets are currently selling for approximately £40 a ticket so pre-booking is essential to get cheaper tickets to Time and the Conway’s. The play was written by J. B. Priestley and is one of his plays from in the so called ‘time play’ collection.
The plays explore the theory of time as discussed by J. W. Dunne in the Theory of Time. Others in the collection include Dangerous Corner and An Inspector Calls. Time and the Conway’s is structured in three acts. The acts are different periods throughout the lives of the Yorkshire family the Conway’s.
The first act is set on the 21st birthday of one of the daughters, Kay, in 1919. The family celebrate the birthday with great relief at the end of the Great War. The second act jumps to Kay’s birthday in 1937 and the growing tension in the lead up to World War Two. The third act goes back to 1919 and continues from where the first act finished.
