The Lion King

The musical version of The Lion King movie has enjoyed a successful reign in its twelve years of performing. The musical has been showing on the West End for a decade and continues to experience the same interest as when it opened.

The Lion King has been showing at the Lyceum Theatre since it opened in London as will continue to show there until at least late October 2009. It has also been running on Broadway where the musical has been awarded with six Tony Awards including the Best Musical award, it was also nominated for a further five awards.

The Disney classic is fast becoming a classic musical. The musical follows the same plot as the film. The story of the Pride Rock kingdom and the birth of the heir to the throne is told in the Lion King. King Mufasa and Queen Sarabi celebrate the pride of their son, Simba, who is the future heir to the throne. However, their celebrations are interrupted by the King Mufasa’s brother. His jealous resentment of Simba, and his right to the throne, ensures that he causes trouble for the young cub. The family friendly musical tells the of Simba’s childhood in the face of the resentful Scar.
