Mamma Mia

Mamma Mia the musical has gained five Laurence Olivier Awards and five Tony Awards for performances on both the West End in London and on Broadway in New York. The success of the musical prompted the release of a film musical in 2008 staring Meryl Streep, Colin Firth, Pierce Brosnan and Julie Walters. The massively famous cast helped ensure that the film became a blockbuster hit and created a renewed surge in interest towards the musical version.

The musical moved from the Prince Edward Theatre in 2004 to the Prince of Wales Theatre where its success has continued to benefit from the release of the musical. The musical revolves around the hit songs of the pop band Abba. Through the songs we learn of Donna and Sophie, mother and daughter, as they prepare for Sophie’s upcoming wedding in a small Greek Island. Sophie desperately wants her father to walk her down the aisle, however, there are three men that could potentially be her father. The musical includes songs such as “I have a dream”, “Dancing Queen”, “Mamma Mia” and “Thank you for the music” making the musical a universally loved performance as everyone sings along to the songs.
