La Cage Aux Folles
The Playhouse Theatre in London’s West End is currently the home for Jean Poiret’s La Cage Aux Folles. The comic play revolved around a gay couple George and Albin. Their lives are forced to change dramatically and George’s future wife takes a dislike to the night club in which Albin in the star of the drag act. She attempts to close it down and her right wing politician father also disapproves of George and Albin’s lifestyles.
The play is famous for the hysterical gags as much as it is for the touching scenes that confront issues of family values and an individuals right to take pride in who they are be it gay, straight, right wing or liberal.
The play has been successfully running at the Playhouse Theatre since October 2008 and bookings continue to be taken up until September 2009. The play was first written in 1973 and has enjoyed successful stints both on New York’s Broadway stage and London’s West End stage. Tickets continue to sell out for La Cage Aux Folles as the demand for the limited appearances of the show is as high as ever. Securing tickets to the play would nearly certainly mean booking in advance.
