Dirty Dancing: The Classic Story Live On Stage takes us back to that glorious setting in the Catskill Mountains of New York, a location where Patrick Swayze’s Johnny and Jennifer Grey’s ‘Baby’ Kellerman fell in love. The smash hit movie is one that is still enjoyed by countless people all around the world to this day. So what better celebration of this classic story is there than witnessing this timeless show on a West End stage?

Since the show opened at the Aldwych Theatre, praise has been finding its way to the production ever since. The Independent said that “This is a show that will give keen pleasure to Dirty Dancing addicts and to newcomers alike”, so it is no wonder that this will now take the venue into the next decade and introduce a whole new generation to this great story. The Observer adds that Dirty Dancing is “The Biggest Live Theatre Sensation Of All Time”.

Dirty Dancing takes us back to 1963 where we are introduced to the well loved characters that are about to embark on a romantic journey set to great music and inspiring choreography. The Kellerman family are taking their vacation in the Catskill Mountains of New York where ‘Baby’ Kellerman finds herself falling in love with the handsome dance instructor Johnny. It is here that Johnny teaches her some very raunchy dance moves that are likely to shock a great many people, but wow others along the way.

But there’s a problem. Mr Kellerman is a very strict man and he will not take kindly to a dance instructor dating his daughter. It is because of this that they must keep their love a secret. However it is not long before he learns the truth and subsequently bans them from seeing each other – it is a heartbreaking turn in this famous narrative. As the story progresses, the songs to hit the stage include the hugely famous “(I’ve Had) The Time Of My Life”, “Hungry Eyes”, and even the song sung in the movie by Swayze himself, “She’s Like The Wind”.

The show has been updated for the stage so that the experience will be new for those who have already seen the movie. Overlooking this update has been Eleanor Bergenstein who has added some scenes that only improve the famous story, with the overall spirit remaining untouched.

So Dirty Dancing: The Classic Story Live On Stage is the perfect treat for those who have seen the hit movie and even for those that haven’t!
