Chicago

The musical Chicago is based on the play written by Maurine Dallas Watkins. She was a journalist covering on various high profile court cases during the 1920s. The play tells the story of two murderesses, one of whom is a famous singer, and the drama that follows these two powerful divas. The musical focuses of Velma Kelly, the famous vaudeville performer, and Roxie Hart, aspiring performer. Velma is imprisoned for the murder of her husband and sister after finding them in bed together. Roxie is jailed after murdering her lover and trying to convince her soppy husband to confess to it after telling him the man was an intruder. Both women employ Billy Flynn as their lawyer. The scheming man creates a famous victim out of Roxie while Velma fades in obscurity. The musical depicts the jealousy and competition between these powerful seductresses and their attempts to play the court room and the media to their own advantage.

The musical has been running on Broadway since 1975 and on the West End since 1997. Its success of stage led to a film version in 2002 which won an Oscar and became a massive blockbuster hit. The musical is once again gracing the stage where it is playing at the Cambridge Theatre.

Chicago tickets can be reserved at a very low price when booked online so why not reat yourself to a great West End show.
