The 19th Century Charles Dickens novel is once again on in the West End. The classical tale of an orphan conned into a world of crime set to music has enchanted audiences since the production was first opened in 1960. The compelling story centres around the deprived lives of poor and orphaned children within London during this period. The musical portrays the neglect and suffering of children in 19th century workhouses through light hearted songs such as “Food, Glorious Food”.
Opening once again this year the production includes famous comedian Rowan Atkinson of Black Adder fame playing the cruel and unforgiving Fagan. Nancy, the bubbly young lady whom takings a maternal liking to Oliver, is played by the winning contestant from the popular television show “I’ll do anything”. The television series that searched for the perfect Nancy has undoubtedly generated great interest in the theatre production. It has proved a great success with theatre tickets selling out for the opening week within days of going on sale. However, the production opening in January 2009 so the availability for cheap theatre tickets for Oliver has greatly increased. Oliver is a firm family favourite, its long running success since 1960 proves it’s worth as a West End classic.
